Fairfield Inn and Suites at the Decatur Conference Center is expected to open next week. A representative from the hotel confirmed the opening date is set for Tuesday, April 24.
Construction on the hotel by Marriott began in Oct. 2016. It was originally expected to open by late 2017, but Decatur Building Official Wayne Smith said changes had to be made to the plans for the building’s guards and screens. Those changes were approved by the city in late February.
Decatur EDC offered $2.7 million in incentives to developer Gatehouse Capital for the building of the hotel. The $2.7 million will be repaid to the EDC from 20 percent of the hotel’s profits in its first 10 years, which jumps to 35 percent in the next 10 years until the incentives are paid back.
The hotel will also receive up to $500,000 in sales tax rebates it pays over a 10-year period. The city will rebate 100 percent of hotel occupancy tax paid by the hotel for five years and rebate 45 percent for five years after that.
Fairfield Inn and Suites is expected to bring multi-day events and conventions to the Decatur Conference Center.
