Texas Gov. Greg Abbott issued an executive order Wednesday allowing bars and similar establishments to open Oct. 14 at the discretion of county judges. Bars, wineries and distilleries will be able to reopen at 50 percent capacity if the county judge files an attestation for his or her county. Wise County Judge J.D. Clark said he plans to file the appropriate paperwork to allow for the reopening. “I’ve been clear for a while that bars, wineries and distilleries have been unfairly targeted,” Clark said. “They can open safely just like a restaurant or retail store. You have to have faith in businesses that they can run safely.” Abbott’s executive order also increases the occupancy levels for all business establishments other than bars to 75 percent, however Wise County restaurants and other businesses were already open at 75 percent capacity, following previous attestations filed by Clark.
