Wise County is quickly closing in on $5 million in sales tax collections with three months left in the fiscal year.
The county received $571,437 for its June disbursement from the Texas Comptroller, pushing its tally since October to $4.881 million. The county, which has a half-cent levy, has topped $500,000 in collections in five of the six months since January.
The county’s disbursement, which was for sales in April, was up 21.42 percent from June 2021’s $470,598.
“It was another good month,” said Wise County Judge J.D. Clark.
The county was not alone in seeing collections soar in June. Nine cities had double-digit increases compared with June 2021.
Decatur’s June payment was $492,948 off its 1.5-cent levy. The city had a 4.02 percent increase from June 2021’s $473,876. Since October, Decatur has collected $4.351 million.
