Decatur’s strategic North Texas location provides exceptional infrastructure that allows for strong business and industry growth. Major transportation outlets, including roadway and railway corridors, encourage the storage and movement of goods through the city and foster economic development opportunities.

Water/Wastewater

The City of Decatur provides municipal water and wastewater services for residential and nonresidential customers in its service area. Water utility capacity supports current business and industry with a capacity for future growth.

Water is sourced from Lake Bridgeport through a pumping and raw water distribution system to the Royce W. Simpson Water Treatment Plant site in Decatur. The City owns and operates a wastewater treatment plant with existing infrastructure, including approximately 49 miles of gravity sewer line and 22 lift station facilities.

To anticipate growth, the City has developed Water and Wastewater Master Plans along with its Capital Improvement Plan (CIP), which strategically locates additional elevated storage tanks, ground storage tanks, water distribution lines, sanitary sewer interceptor lines, and lift stations around the city and its ETJ.

Electric

Texas is a deregulated energy market, allowing residents and businesses to select their electric provider of choice and take advantage of competitive rates. Electric in Decatur and Wise County is delivered by Oncor, the largest electric delivery company in Texas, delivering electricity to 408 communities and 98 counties. 

Wise Electric Cooperative serves residents and businesses in seven counties, including Wise County. Because of the organization's cooperative status, all customers are member-owners, and the organization is driven by margins, not profits.

Natural Gas

Atmos Energy provides natural gas services to businesses and residents in Decatur. Atmos Energy is the largest natural gas distributor in the state of Texas and invests approximately $2 billion a year in system upgrades to provide customers with safe and reliable natural gas services.

Telephone and Internet

There are a number of telephone and internet service providers in Decatur, offering services from analog and digital to wireless Broadband and fiber optics.
